Professor Rogers’ major research interests are in the field of Scrapie in sheep and Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) in cattle. Leading an internationally recognized research group, he successfully licensed immunodiagnostic technologies that have been employed in BSE diagnosis, resulting in over €2 million in royalties accruing to UCD.  He received the inaugural Nova UCD award for innovation in 2004 and the Knowledge Transfer Ireland Licence2Market Impact Award in 2015.

As Dean of Science and subsequently as Registrar and Deputy President, Professor Rogers has recognised the need for research informed and research-led educational programmes.  Focussing on enhancing opportunities for students, he has simplified entry routes, promoted a student centred approach across the University and is moving the University to an outcomes based curriculum focus.

Currently, Professor Rogers is leading on changes in educational delivery, student experience and on ensuring that the underpinning structure, processes and systems of the University are effective and efficient.
